Exhibition

“Japanesque Modern Collection” 2006 Announcement and Exhibition

Date:   October 31 to November 12 (Opening Ceremony on October 30)
Venue:   Nihonbashi Mitsui Tower Atrium

A selection of 53 items were announced as the first "Japanesque Modern Collection."
At the opening ceremony, Michiyo Takagi, then parliamentary secretary for Economy, Trade and Industry, made a speech, and Shinji Fukukawa, council chair of the Japanesque Modern Council, and Kunio Nakamura, board chair, cut a ceremonial ribbon.
On behalf of the producers of the selected products, Hiromichi Iwasa, president and CEO of Mitsui Fudosan Co., Ltd., received the certificate of Japanesque Modern Collection from Kunio Nakamura.
At the exhibition venue, the selected products were displayed with panels and monitors, and the visitors were impressed by the wide variety as well as the excellence of the selected products.

“Japanesque Modern” Presentation at JAPANTEX 2007 Interior Trend Show

Venue:   Tokyo Big Sight West Hall

The diversity in the concept of “Japanesque Modern” had a stimulating influence also on the interior industry, and “Japanesque Modern” became widely recognized by many of the visitors.
Takamado no Miya Hisako (Princess Takamado) visited the venue and studied the concept of “Japanesque Modern.”

Private show and reception

Venue:   The Gallery of Horyuji Treasures, Tokyo National Museum

The committee invited the producers of the selected products, Japanesque Modern Council members, METI executive officers and other experts to the reception.
At the ceremony, Kunio Nakamura, board chair of Japanesque Modern Committee, made a speech as the host. Then, on behalf of the guests, Hideichi Okada, director-general of Commerce and Information Policy Bureau, METI, read the a congratulatory address by Akira Amari, minister of Economy, Trade and Industry.
The venue (The Gallery of Horyuji Treasures), which has been selected as one of the “Japanesque Modern Collection,” was lit up under the night sky, and the passionate Tsugaru-jamisen music played by Hiromitsu Agatsuma created an atmosphere fit for the  “Japanesque Modern” banquet.



Exhibition

(Private show at 18:00 – 21:00, November 27)
Venue:   2nd Floor, Hyokeikan, Tokyo National Museum

All 63 items selected as the "Japanesque Modern Collection” 2006 were exhibited.
The items were exhibited effectively in accordance with the features of the venue, Hyokeikan.
Concurrently, Sanbouten, a conceptual exhibition hosted by "Japanesque Modern" members was held at the same venue.

* Hyokeikan was created to celebrate the wedding of Crown Prince Yoshihito (the future Emperor Taisho). The building, designated an Important Cultural Property, is noted as a typical example of Western style architecture from the late Meiji period.

This exhibition was held to display the results of the three workshops organized by “Japanesque Modern” members as trial “creations” carried out in accordance with the “Japanesque Modern” concept.
The Japanesque Modern Committee members displayed their trial models and carried out a presentation in front of the visitors, receiving widespread attention.


Seminars

Seminars about “Japanesque Modern” were held for members only by guest lecturers.
This allowed participants to gain further understanding and knowledge of “Japanesque Modern.”

Workshops

Workshops were held to raise interest in “Japanesque Modern” and to create opportunities for developing new products and content through interaction between the Japanesque Modern Committee members and people engaged in traditional handicrafts and local industries.

The First Workshop

 

Location: Kyoto
Outline: Participants visited the sites of Kyoto's traditional crafts and companies.
This was followed by a discussion about how to develop new products and collaborate with local industries.

The Second Workshop

 

Location: Hokuriku Region (Takaoka and Kanazawa)
Outline: People engaged in traditional crafts in Takaoka and Kanazawa gave presentations. This was followed by a presentation about the activities of the Japanesque Modern Committee.
Participants visited the shops and studios of the presenters to gain knowledge, and then held a discussion in accordance with the workshop program.
